Journaling: We rode the subway to Deak Ferenc Ter and stopped for a bar from Don’s stash before hopping on Bus 16, Rick’s recommendation as the best way to reach Castle Hill. At that point, we had no idea how much a part of our lives Bus 16 was about to become. We missed the stop near the castle and finally figured out how to get back there on Bus 16A. We wandered around the castle grounds and enjoyed looking out over the Danube at the city vistas -- the Chain Bridge and Parliament. Atop Castle Hill is the Turul Bird, a mythical bird who supposedly led the Magyar people to settle in this spot. After another short ride on Bus 16, or was it 16A, we discovered that the Matthias Church was closed that afternoon for weddings. We decided it was time to head back down the mountain and got on 16A. We came to the end of the line; and the driver, whom Alice dubbed ‘Vlad the Impaler,’ roughly communicated to us that we had to get off. After some study of the bus routes, we finally figured out that we needed to be on 16 to get back to Deak Ferenc Ter. I thought for a while we might spend the rest of our vacation on Bus 16. 05.14.11
