Give a Cheer
Whereas organized track and field days were never high on my list of faves (the sports involved usually weren't my forte, I was better at gymnastics, figure skating, swimming and badminton), I enjoyed school sports days a lot as child.
It was oodles of fun to compete in playful, good-natured games of tug-of-war, potato sack races, and long-distance bean bag toss. In this photo (from the early 90s) taken during one of my elementary school sports days, I'm ambushing my little brother from behind with a big (sister) hug. I loved it when he became old enough to go to school with me each morning and especially enjoyed times like this that allowed us to interact during the school day.
As I remember these special school events as being colourful, cheerfully decorated events, I went with plenty of banners in different hues and shapes to tie into the feeling of energetic celebration that good old fashioned sports day brings to mind.
