Aunt Pearl was my great aunt and a very special person in my mother's life and also mine. The amount of flour was not included in the recipe. Aunt Pearl probably used a bread bowl similar to the one I have that my grandmother made biscuits in. It is an oval wooden bowl that a generous amount of flour was placed in where they would hollow out a "well" and add the ingredients listed in the recipe. They used their fingers to mix flour into the mixture and they knew from practice how the dough would feel when it was the right consistency.
