Stunning!! I looked through my photos the other day and also stumbled upon a photo I took of the smallest church in the world which is right here in SA and I am dying to scrap it but I just love this photo and of course the layout..just beautiful!! :))
Wow now this is very interesting. I even had to look it up to find out where it was located. Great job on using up your stash and I am love with the bchicken wire and burlap!!
What a wonderful bit of history to preserve - too bad it was never finished - looks like it would have been beautiful - even the ruins are beautiful - love the embellies you chose - just perfect for that rustic look!
Wow, this is absolutely fantastic. The colors are amazing. Love the interesting story and the photo. But it's the rustic feel to this lo that I'm smitten with. Great work. into faves.
This is so interesting..thanks for the history lesson..and what a beautiful layout. Perfect embellies. That chicken wire can't be chipboard can it?? Love the colored letters!
WOWZA!!! Amazing layout! Super love the chicken and barb wire! So many great textures and the flowers are a perfect touch! TFS the story with us......FAV!!
WOW - Stately, dignified and MAJESTIC all come to mind when I look at your LOVELY photo and lo. Your description was so well written and interesting. I found myself imagining what the Church might have looke like in 1843 had it been finished. TFS!!!
what an interesting story, Maryanne! I always feel kind of sad for abandoned buildings that have no one to love them...I'm so glad you got a photo of this one! your design and details are fabulous, and I love the burlap-like fibers;they're just a little more loosely woven, aren't they?-it actually gives a really nice effect. TFS
WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! What a fabulous photo Maryanne!!!!! I so enjoyed reading the info & your design is to die for!!!!! Total perfcetion & a big time fav for me!!!!! GORGEOUS!!!
Fantastic photo, fantastic story, and what a gorgeous page!!! Love the colors and all of your beautiful embellies, especially the burlap and chippies!!!!
I love this photo and the story. This LO is beautiful, I love the chicken wire, I think it fits with the story /LO as the church has barb wire around it. Very well done! It is a fave!
What an utterly beautiful place! I feel God's presence is here anyway...Thanks for sharing your country's history and that you were tall enough to get a good photo! I'd like to see your 2nd pages!
This is another layout that had been lying around unfinished for awhile. I wasn't sure what I wanted to achieve so I took my inspiration from Jrabs and her use of chicken wire and burlap (I now have a ton of burlap because I had to buy it by the meter…lol!! Well actually it is hesian it isn't as neat as burlap). I wanted to try her painting techniques too, but thought maybe another day when I gain some more confidence. Thanks Jen for the inspiration!
This little church was built by convict labour in 1843 but was never completely finished. It has never been consecrated and never had a denomination or name…it is just known as Boyds Church! It is hiding in the bush at Twofold Bay on the South Coast of NSW, Australia, and came about when a Scottish entrepreneur, Benjamin Boyd, had plans to build a town where he would operate his Steamship and Whaling industry from. He had built a Hotel and Tower and some housing before he became bankrupt. He left Australia leaving his project to build Boydtown unfinished. It is believed he headed for the California gold fields in 1849 in the attempt to recoup some of his fortune. He disappeared in the Solomons in 1851 when he went ashore to hunt ducks. His body was never found, despite searches initiated by his creditors. The Hotel is now a beautiful resort and is all that is left functional of Boydtown. The tower is still there and this poor little crumbling Church, which lost its roof in a bushfire in 1926. It now has a tall barb wire fence around it as it is not safe and will eventually collapse. I am lucky I am tall, so I was able to hold the camera up over the fence to get a fairly good pic. Like most of my holiday layouts…this will be a 2 pager with the other page using the We R Memory Keeper sleeves for the additional photo's and journaling.
I am still on my mission to use up older supplies. The flowers are from Prima and the title is BG Offbeat which I coloured with copics to give a bit more depth. Chipboard chicken wire and barbwire is from DA and the leaves are from Out there Chippie. Thanks so much for taking the time to have a peek :)
