While away on vacation down at Bradenton Beach Florida, I got bit by a small octopuss! Yep, only me! My daughter and I were out looking for seashells and so we were in about 3-4 feet of water with our goggles on. I found a small conch (3 inches) shell and looked at it good to make sure there was not a crab in it and so instead of placing it on the beach I stuck it in the top of my swimsuit bottoms. Then about 10 minutes later I had like a wasp sting feeling... and man did it hurt. I immediately got out of the water and took the shell out of my bottoms and seen a jelly type substance in the shell, I kind of poked it and thought it was a small jelly fish... so I placed the shell on the beach and watched it and out came about a 2-3 inch tiny reddish colored octopus!! I was like wow, who would have thought that and it was soo tiny! Eric told me he didn't think they stung, so when I got home and googled it I found that they do bite and found a picture of what it looked like. This is what it looked like. I then moved it towards the water and it swam away.. but let's just say ouch and who would have guessed that would have happened, but hey I guess it is better than a shark bite! It left a little mark and was fine within the a few hours. Lesson learned, do not stick seashells in your swimsuit, even if it looks like there is nothing taking up home in it!
