Oh Sonja, you did a fabulous job on the Challenge! First the photo you used for your inspiration is beautiful and I love all the sentiment behind it. Second, beautiful job on scrapping clean and simple! Third, the handmade embellishment-your flower is perfect! Also for the Stalker Challenge over at Scraps of Darkness. The object was to use a photo that inspired you in a Clean and Simple format, incorporate an element of the photo on the LO as well as use something that you have never used before and a handmade item.
**Please note I did not take this picture, but I cannot find the photographer name to reference!** I chose this photo I found for several reasons. I found it on a weekly photo blog on MSN and it caught my eye because the photo was taken of a bald eagle that nests near the town of Ellensburg, WA, where I went to college! It inspired me because I think the bald eagle is just such an awe-inspiring creature; very proud and majestic. To see one in the wild is truly a special experience as well as fills one with pride in their homeland and country. I'm proud to be an American and felt this was an excellent example of that. I also felt this was perfect for the Steampunk challenge as the theme was 'Americana'. The elements I tried to incorporate from the photo were the twigs as well as a leaf that was included in the July Scraps of Darkness kit (which is AWEsome, by the way!) that I tried to make look more like a feather by inking it, trimming it and cutting into it a little. The twig and leaf were also elements I had never used before as was the Prima flower screen in the background. My handmade element was the flower. I cut three of the same flowers from my Cricut 'Mother's Day Bouquet' cartridge, inked it and made it into a flower using the photo tutorial I found over at Swirlydoos. I then misted it with copper and granite glimmer mists. This is my first attempt at using my first Scraps of Darkness kit and I have to say I had a blast!! Pretty much everything you see, except the letters, Prima screen and leaf were part of the kit - you get SO much! TFL!
