We decided that the patio needed an actual retaining wall. The rain was slowly eroding the gravel out from under my bricks that I had put down.

So - a cheap and affordable solution was cinder blocks. I will fill the holes between the bricks (the straight parts)on the two sides with cement for access on and off the patio. The rest of the holes I will fill with dirt, and plant with some kind of ground creeper flowers (moss roses maybe - they grow nice and low and there are lots of colors). I will do all of the holes, except the short straight part that runs parallel to the house (by the tree), that is where the bbq will sit, and I don't think stuff will grow there. But we will see.

This is as far as I will go this week, next week I will do the concrete and start with the stones again. I need 4 days in a row at home where I can keep the concrete wet while it cures. And we are going camping this weekend, so next week it will be.
