A layout I made for my dog, Apollo. I lifted the LO from Cathy Zileski. It reads: Dearest Apollo…You were supposed to be with us for the long haul, living a long, well pampered life, fulfilling the role of Lucas' first dog. You joined our family in 2005, while we lived in Italy. It was before parenthood & before Steve had deployed for the 1st time. You kept me feeling safe when he left for Kuwait. Cancer cut your life short at 6 years. A battle that you fought honorably as you lost a leg to it 7 months before you said goodbye. It still pains me when I see your empty kennel and toys tucked away in the garage. I'll never take your photos off the wall for you were more than just a dog to our small family. I'll look at them fondly, remembering your wiggly exuberant body, your paranoid barks at 2 a.m., your obsession with sticks & frisbees, your “hugs,” your excited sneezes, and the way you followed me everywhere. I still question why I'm not going to see a graying, slowed down Labrador in a few years but God has a plan for everything & you must have been needed for something more important in heaven. I'm so sorry we weren't with you during your last 3 weeks…we had no idea you were in pain and about to leave us. I am grateful though that we had one last afternoon together & that you perked up as we helped you in the car & gave us a last show of the happy Apollo we knew & loved. It calmed me seeing you hop around at the clinic giving everyone love, it let me know that even through your obvious pain you still had the strength to bring a smile to our faces. As I saw the light slowly fade from your eyes I knew you were at peace. Thanks Apollo for all the love and memories. Thanks for being my beloved guardian and friend.
