It was still early in the day when we left Volcanoes National Park so when we passed the Mauna Loa Nut Farm, we had to check it out.

The free tour is self-guided and takes you by each station in the process of sorting the nuts, making chocolate covered macadamia candies and boxing them. There were windows to look into at each section and a tv mounted outside each station window. When you pressed your language a video came on explaining what you were viewing through the glass. We want to know which one is Lucy and which is Ethel.

After completing the tour we went back to the gift shop and bought some chocolate covered macadamia nuts – my favorite! We also found something we had never seen before. Hershey's Kisses with a macadamia nut in each one in a specially designed bag!

The bag had the Hershey's logo but it also had the Moana Loa name and logo on it. Those are only available on the Big Island they cannot be bought anywhere else! So we naturally had to have a bag. Bill also bought me a box of macadamia biscotti. I have the web address and I will be ordering some more! They also make the biscotti dipped in white chocolate or milk chocolate and I will also be ordering those!

Right at dusk we took a walk on the beach and we were surprised to find a Hawaiian monk seal laying on the sand. He was shedding; apparently this is normal for these seals to lie on the beach when they are shedding. Pictures did not turn out very well.

Back to the car and to the Chinese bbq restaurant that had been recommended. Please do not make me eat there again! EVER! Neither of us liked it. I think we threw away more food than we ate. There should be a law against restaurants that bad!
