This is a LO I made using three different shades of brown Bazzil cardstock.
The pictures are from a trip to Europe with my choir after my freshman year in highschool. When we were in Germany, we went to Dachau, the site of a former concentration camp during the Holocaust. It was a very moving experience.
The right hand page has pictures of a memorial/altar area that was set up in memory of Catholic priests who were killed. I am especially proud of the far right set of pictures, I got it lined up just right so that I could show the tall structure and the crown of thorns sculpture at the top.
The bottom picture is of the back of the memorial, and it has the following phrase in four languages:

"Here in Dachau, every third victim was a Pole & one of every two Polish Priests was martyred & their holy memory is venerated by their fellow prisoners of the Polish clergy"

The text of that quote is what will go in the blank journal box above the picture, so that it is easy for people to read (and because I found it so moving). In cropping that picture, I ended up with two strips of stone that I turned into embellishments for the rest of the page.

I had just taken a class at my LSS before making this where we had used the new MM colored staples. I am so glad I was introduced to them because I was skeptical and wouldn't have used them on my own, but they are *perfect* for this LO! I used bronze staples on the corners of each picture/mat/box - they're not actually holding the pictures on, but I thought it made a nice finishing touch, especially because of the barbed wire in the picture on the first page and the crown of thorns on the second page.
I plan to type up journaling on vellum and staple it over the blank space on the left hand page (hopefully I can get that done before the end of this contest! :))

Thanks for looking, I am so proud of this layout, thanks for letting me share!

:)
Julie
