Journaling: Part of Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral was begun in 1344. Construction was stalled by wars and plagues, but it was finally completed in 1929 in time for the 1000th anniversary of St. Wenceslas’ death. Wenceslas himself is buried in a side chapel whose wallpaper is encrusted with jewels. Near the high altar, there’s even a royal box where the king could attend mass in his jammies because a corridor connected his private apartment to the royal box. The cathedral is an impressive Gothic / Neo-Gothic structure with spires soaring toward the sky and an immense nave resplendent with beautiful stained glass windows. 05.23.11
