For the Skeletons in the Closet challenge July-Sept over at Scraps of Darkness. The object of this challenge was to take a picture of an inanimate object and scrap it, using a title that others would recognize and be familiar with, in a way that would get others to feel the photo or idea behind the photo.
I had taken this photo (see close up) back in May on our last ski trip to Mammoth. I've always been amazed with how the Sierras look from the road - flat and straight with rugget peaks and mountains right next to you. It's truly a moment with nature for me every time we go there. As we were driving from Mammoth Lakes to June Mountain to ski, I happened to look in my rearview mirror and saw the Sierras just spread out behind me. I immediately thought of the phrase 'Objects in the Mirror are Closer than they Appear'. Never more factual than it is on the 395 when the mountains are right there in front of you!
So I carefully snapped a photo and it came out really cool. I've been waiting for a reason to scrap it! This page is more about the awesomeness of nature and what a sweet world we live in. I am a very earthy person and am drawn to nature and the outdoors like a moth to a flame. Case in point, we have 32 plants in our home!
Therefore I really wanted this LO to have a natural, earthy feel to it. When I saw the fabulous 'Envy' kit for August Scraps of Darkness, I was very inspired, but I couldn't quite get it to look the way I wanted. So I reached back into papers I'd gotten from older kits - and voila, the idea in my mind appeared and I'm really happy with it!
The journal is lyrics from one of my favorite songs by Dave Matthews Band called 'One Sweet World'. It's shortened to fit, but I kept what I felt meant the most and best described this page. It says: "Nine planets surround the sun, only one does the sun embrace. Upon this watered one, so much we take for granted. So let us sleep outside tonight. Lay down in your mother's arms. For here we can rest safely. One sweet world, around this star is spinning. One sweet world, and in her breath I'm swimming. And here I will rest in peace..."
I had my DH do the writing because my handwriting is horrible, so that's what the 'JP' is for! :)
TFL!
