Bill had been to Mesa Verde with his brother and his grandfather when he was 12 and remembered the Cliff Palace. He said he knew I would love it so he really wanted me to see it.
I became concerned when we walked into the visitor's center to purchase tickets.
There were signs posted everywhere stating this tour was not safe for people with respiratory problems, heart problems, leg or knee problems or anyone else who could not handle hikes with steep climbs and high elevations.
I have asthma, I've had knee surgery, my legs frequently hurt and I can't stand for long periods of time. And no part of my body is physically fit by any stretch of the imagination.

This seemed like a crazy thing for me to try but Bill told me that he knew my abilities and said I could do it. Of course I believe everything Bill says! I really wanted to see the Cliff Palace after all I'd heard about it and especially after seeing the pictures in the visitor's center.
I used my inhaler an hour before the tour started, again moments before the tour began. I didn't use it again until we had climbed the last ladder at the end. Bill had to help me with the climbing a bit in spots, but overall, I did fine.
I am so glad he talked me into this! It was amazing – an experience I will always remember!
