Hidden Journaling:
When you have had a month like the one we have had, any day without a major catastrophe feels like you just won the lottery. During this month alone we have run over something on the highway that flattened both passenger tires, the pump stopped working in our well so we had to replace it (along with the pipes AND wiring), some kids drove by and shot BB’s at our house which shattered the glass of our storm door and put a nice hole in our main front window, and finally our circle of misfortune was complete when our car battery died. I never knew that 30 days could cost so much in dollars and stress! Our turn for a random day of goodness finally arrived though and was it ever in the nick of time. Even after we installed a new battery in the car it still made a loud noise while it ran and would actually stop running if the gas pedal wasn’t held down. Poor Andrea had to learn to drive her automatic car like a standard! We diagnosed, in our mechanically challenged best guess way, that the exhaust system must be the problem. A trip to Quality Mufflers and a professional inspection by them revealed that the Camry’s “flex pipe” was broken. A mere twenty minutes, $70 and some slight impatience later our car was purring like a kitten, even better then when we first bought it. But wait, the misfortune gremlins were not done with us yet. The car still died, now it just died on us quietly! We quickly learned that MUFFLER men are not MECHANIC men so we headed off to a “recommended” shop. An actual mechanic looked at the engine, listened to the engine, checked the engine, and said “It just needs to be reset”. What? Anyone else ever heard of this or am I the only one feeling like a four year old in Nuclear Chemistry class. Whatever this magical reset thing is five minutes late our car was fixed and he didn’t charge one penny for the repairs. Take that you nasty gremlins! In lieu of this miraculous turn in events, both in time saved AND financial gain, we decided a celebration was in order. Here’s a little hint towards our celebration destination… El almuerzo es en mi bebe! For those who couldn’t guess this one, the sentence is actually Spanish for “Lunch is on me baby”. We chose a restaurant that neither of us had been to before and as soon as we walked in I knew our wheel of fortune had spun in our favor. The place was very large and open, super clean, seating and service was quick and friendly, the food was fresh, tasty and reasonably priced, and there were plenty of leftovers. All this from an eatery quaintly named “Chips ‘N Salsa”. Full stomachs are best followed by walking, and for us walking inevitably means shopping. We visited several close places, purchased some feel better goodies, and headed home knowing that our dreary month had finally passed. This collection of photos shows quite a lot of smiles, mostly from us knowing we made it through this difficult month. But those smiles are also because we realized that as long as we stick together those misfortune gremlins can try their darndest but we will always overcome.
