We all awoke leisurely, everyone had their coffee, and Raquel, Robert, Kara, Dustin, and I packed into the car for our day in Baltimore. We decided today would be a good day for the Baltimore Aquarium since the weather wasn’t supposed to be very nice. Off to Baltimore, which was about 1 hour 30 minute drive from Raquel’s house. As we got into the city the first thing Dustin saw was the Raven’s football stadium. Then he saw Camden Yards. Many of the streets in downtown Baltimore had construction going on for the September 11 Memorial festivities for its 10 year Anniversary, so it was difficult to get around the area. We parked in a parking garage and headed over to the aquarium. It was amazing! They had so many fantastic exhibits covering much of the world. There were dolphins, sharks, turtles, sting rays, jelly fish, and any other sea life creature you could think of. It also went into the Amazon and had the rainy season vs. the wet season. There were crocodiles/Alligators (not sure which), birds, and reptiles. This place was very neat. Then we walked a little bit of the harbor and saw the USS Torsk submarine (the last ship to sink an enemy vessel in World War II) and the Lightship Chesapeake (During WWII, this ship was based out of Sandwich, Massachusetts, where it served as an examination and guard vessel at the north entrance of the Cape Cod Canal and helped protect the important port of Boston).
All of us were tired of walking, so we went over to the Barnes and Noble which is in the original Power Plant building (built in 1900-1909, supplied power to the United Railway and Electric Company). We sat in the Starbuck’s Café for a while before heading over to Little Italy. Raquel wanted to go to a little Italian Restaurant for dinner, which she wanted us to indulge in this particular restaurant. About a 10 minute walk from the Aquarium, we were at Amicci’s Italian Restaurant. I wasn’t very hungry so I shared an Appetizer with Raquel (I should have gotten one by myself – It was that good) which was a Pane Rotundo. The Pane Rotundo is an Italian bread bowl baked till crispy with Creamy Scampi and Shrimp on top. It was to die for. I savored every bite and didn’t want the meal to end. After dinner, Raquel wanted to stop at a little Italian Bakery for Tony on our way back to the car. While we were waiting for Raquel in the bakery, the rain started to pour. Back at the car, we piled in for the drive back to Dover.
