Wow! What a neat project! Wonder if I can get my DH to make me one? Wait, he'll tell me for the 10,000th time I need to learn to weld and fix things and make the stuff I want!
Pic #1 - I got this antique headboard and footboard from my good friend.
Pic #2 - BIL grinding off the old paint so we had a smooth clean surface to work with.
Pic #3 - We cut the foot board in half, and welded each half onto the end of the headboard.
Pic #4 - Welding
Pic #5 - sparks from grinding. BIL figures that the bedframe is close to 100 years old. He could tell from the way the sparks looked as to what type of iron it was - it's wrought iron, and the last wrought iron was produced in 1914. So he figures this frame is from about that time period. (and we cut it up!)
Pic #6 - sides in place, just need the front brace
Pic #7 - front piece, and bracing that we added for more support.
Pic #8 - in it's temporary place.
Next steps - call a sandblasting company here in town and see how much it will cost to have it blasted. If it's too much, I will just sand/scrape by hand. Spray paint in color of choice. Add a wood base for seat. Make a cushion or giant pillow for seat. This bench is about the size of a standard loveseat. Will easily fit two adults. Not quite sure where it will go yet - I'm thinking in the dining room at the table.
