Week 3 Was Life Changing For Me!

Journaling:
*Friday is now a day that I will never forget for as long as I live. I let David sleep in when I left for work so at 5:30am I aimed the Camry for Waynesburg. About two miles from the house I was coming out of a slight curve at the top of a hill when the car kept going straight – I was sliding across the road! I knew there was a guardrail ahead of me but I had a mental picture of crashing through it and plummeting down the hill on the other side so I turned the wheel to the right. Instantly the car began to flip over and I was rolling across the road. All I could do was hold onto the steering wheel, duck my head down as low as I could get it and scream “Please God, Please God” over and over. When the car stopped rolling it landed on its wheels in a field with me still belted inside. I was covered in dirt and glass and crying my eyes out. It was completely dark outside and when I tried to turn the overhead light on I found that the roof was caved in and cracked by the moonroof. I couldn’t see anything. Still to scared to move I started honking the car horn and screaming for help in the hope that someone nearby might hear me. I’m not sure how much time passed but finally a plow truck stopped and the driver helped me out of the Camry and up to his truck. He then radioed his dispatcher to send an ambulance and didn’t leave until they arrived. I never got the drivers name but I thank him every day for stopping to help. Since I couldn’t find my phone the EMT used his to reach David and he came rushing to the site. Though the EMT only found a little scratch on my head and some bruising from the seatbelt all David kept saying was “I can’t believe you are ok”. He had seen the car he came to me so his mental picture was a lot worse of how I really was. Of course the police were on the scene too and they only made the whole thing worse. They grilled me about how the accident happened, like it was my fault and not the snowy, icy road conditions. They questioned me on why I had no proof of insurance on me when the card was quite obviously somewhere in the field where the Camry was. They even gave me a ticket for “Failure To Control” the vehicle though I didn’t damage another vehicle or anyone’s property. I thought David would blow his top on them but he just held me and said to forget about it. We waited for the tow truck to arrive and they happened to find my phone beside the car. Even covered in snow it worked just fine. David took me home, called my work to let them know what happened and his work to tell them he was taking the day off. He then called the insurance company to report the accident and get their involvement rolling. Finally he called his mother to let her know what happened. She immediately said that her and his sister would be coming over to see how she was. Being scared, dirty, tired and sore I decided to take a hot shower to relax a little. David waited right outside the door the whole time to make sure I was ok. I washed dirt and glass out of my hair for five minutes. The shower helped so much and by the time David’s family arrived I was finally relaxed again. His mother ended up bringing an entire Chevy Traverse filled with food for us. Chili, soda, chips, lunch meat and bread, cheese, ice cream and pizza. They made sure WE would want for nothing for at least a week! She even brought me a pretty pink flowering plant to raise my spirits. They really are a super family. While we visited with them the insurance adjustor called David and said the care had been totaled and would be moved by Monday so if there was anything in the car that we might want we should go get it out today. We said our goodbyes to his mom and sister and headed to the tow yard. When we reached the yard I had a true revelation upon seeing the car right in front of me. When I saw the front bumper torn off, the windows all broken out, how low the roof had been caved in and the amount of glass and dirt that was inside the car from the rolling I started crying again. Not so much because of the destruction but because of the perfectly safe area where I had been sitting. It looked like some kind of protective bubble had been around me as the car was destroyed and it was; God had placed that protection there. He had wanted me to survive the accident. Every person that saw the car said they couldn’t believe I was still alive much less barely hurt. The tow yard attendant was even able to get a CD from the stereo out because the car would still start. Totally incredible to me! We gathered up everything that was worth taking and headed back home. David and I spent the rest of the day in each other’s arms enjoying the reality that I was still there to cuddle with him. I got teary eyed every so often when a random image would flash through my mind. I know this will scar me inside and out for a long time to come, possibly forever. I thank you again God for sheltering me in your protective hands, for your peace on mine and David’s souls, and for your love that lets me still draw breath on this planet. Goodnight.
*Saturday David felt bad about having to go back to work but I told him I was ok and he needed to run his store too. I had some pain in my neck and back off and on the entire day but nothing that made me think I might be severely hurt. The pain was just another reminder that I was still alive and though pain is obviously an unpleasant thing I was supremely thankful to be feeling at all. Hopefully the upcoming week won’t have the same level of excitement as there is only so much you can take in one week!
