This layout brings tears to my eyes and is such a lovely tribute to your father-in-law. It is just beautiful and really is what scrapbooking is all about. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story and wonderful layout.
This is so beautiful, Jen, but heartbreaking - I cam across it checking out the TH weathered clock. I always like to believe that when older people suffer from any sort of dementia and cannot communicate with us or recognize us, that there is a part of their soul that knows we're there and is receiving the love we are offering. I love the symbolism of your wonderful LO - the chained weathered clock, the "H" at the bottom and the string. I hope that creating this wonderfully creative LO was somewhat therapeutic for you.
WOW Jenn! What an amazing and amazingly bitter-sweet story you have here. I LOOOVE all the imagry and significance of each item on this page. Alzheimers is such a sad disease and you captured exactly what it does perfectly. FAve for sure!
My heart goes out to you. This disease is so cruel not only to the one who has it but their families as well. The lo is wonderful. Standing by someone with this disease is so admirable because it is extremely difficult to watch a loved one not recall or remember who you are. Hugs to you!!!!
What beautiful things you have done on this manly page! I know how hard it is to go see our loved ones. I think memory loss is one of the hardest things we as loved ones of someone suffering from it have to deal with. Boy that was wordy...
There is a lot of creativity in this layout! Not knowing your FIL I believe you have captured him in a very special way. I can see your love and your admiration for him. Very nicely written! Thanks for sharing!
I'm late in posting this comment as I could not stop myself getting emotional. It is such a wonderful tribute to a lovely man,my heart goes out to you all.Everything is so beautiful about this page.
Fabulous lo and I bet one day your FIL was proud of you, because you can tell some really good tall tales yourself!! lol I was looking for inspiration to get me started on my first "Darker Side" challenge and came across this lo. Thanks so much!
Wow Jen...this is so moving and powerful!! Your details are so heartfelt and your layout beautiful!! It must be so heartbreaking for you all to experience this time in your beloved FIL's life!! Lovely tribute and lovely photo!!

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry about your FIL but what an amazing tribute you have done for him. So much thought has gone into this LO, I know that if things were different he would feel very special because of this. My thoughts are with you all.
I am so sorry about your father in law...it is such a tough thing to have to witness and be part of! this is a gorgeous tribute to what sounds like a jewel of a man! My prayers are with you and your family!
I'am so sorry to hear about your father in law,it Brings tears in my eyes. But this page is so great it tells a story!!! This is art so beautiful and so full of symbolism,i also now what it's like if one off your family's memory's begin to fade. My mom is slowly on here Way back. Sad but true!!! You work is amazing and i love it sooooooooo much!!!!!
Nice colours, cool photo, and I like the misting and pocket watch. Excellent symbolism in this layout! Awesome work! Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. My grandmother had Alzheimer's. It's very sad.
Oh my gosh Jen, this page is amazing! I feel every bit of your pain as my darling father passed away of Alzheimers several years ago but not before it robbed him of memory and speech. I was lucky to be there at the end and just before he took his last breath he looked at me as I held his hand and smiled...I believe for just one moment he remembered me again. TFS!
Wonderful time pieces and gears on here and I LOVE THAT PHOTO~thank you for sharing your memory with us and for making this wonderful lo as a sweet tribute to your father-in-law, it tugs at my heart and makes me want to go hug mine, TFS
what a beautiful and heartbreaking page, Jen...I love the way different elements are symbolic and they work together to create a special tribute to the soul and spirit of your FIL and to the memories you have of him.Awesome job...hope it was therapeutic to put this together...
Hon, this is so wonderful I am speechless. You can see the love and agony in each element. Not sure who it's harder on the family or the person, both are devastating in their own way. The lo is so wonderful and a great tribute to the man that was. You never know, somewhere deep he may know you and your family are there. Big Hugs.
Oh, Jen, Truly inspirational and a wonderful way to represent the only disease I am afraid of. Hope this helped you with this all the emotions this conjures up. He is a very handsome man. May your memories comfort you and your family.
Thank you for sharing the story, it's heatrbreaking seeing our loved ones changed forever by a disease! You have done an amazing layout to express your feelings!
Gorgeous layout surrounding a heartbreaking disease! So wonderfully and emotionally scrapped with so many personal details! Love every inch of it and your beautiful memories of your FIL! FAV!
Time Fades Our Memories - created with the Scraps of Darkness Jan kit, Escape. Gorgeous Kit - please check us out. It was created for the Dr. Darkness Interpretation Challenge at the Scraps Of Darkness.
Requirements were straight forward and easy. Interpret the word "FADE" and use paint, inks, mists, whatnot.
Time Fades Our Memories. Sad but true. My sweet father-in-law used to tell a fine tale, some silly tales, some fish tales and even some tall tales. Those tales exist no more. They have faded with time like a cruel joke. He suffers from Alzheimer's.
I have bound my clock with chains at the top, as if it is a prisoner. I have taken the "H" out of the inside of the pocket watch at the bottom because my father-in-law, Harold, now exists outside of time. He is an island in his own mind yet he remains tethered to the clock (representing the world) by the string.
And finally the string....did you ever hear someone say they needed to tie string to their finger to help them remember something? never really understood why, but I remember that from my childhood - something silly my granny used to do to help her remember.
I am thankful I still remember and my memory has not faded yet.
This is a photo I took while visiting my Father-in-law in Sept. 2011 at the Memory Care Center where he lives. The visits are not for him as much as they are for us. He does not know who we are and cannot communicate with us, but we just need to savor a few more moments with him before his time fades forever.
Saddly I have not made peace with the cruelty of the disease. I'll scrap the heck out of this monster and then when that one sad final day comes, I'll have meaningful pieces of my Father-in Law. The once brave, strong, young proud Paratrooper, Sharpshooter from the ArmyAirborne 101st F-Company serving in WWII.
Boy oh boy did I used to LOVE his stories. I could sit for hours and listen. Well, I did actually each time we visited. I'd sit and listen and learn and absorb the masterful way he spoke. Man could he weave a good one.
You can find close ups in my blog. I'd love a visit from you. http://scrap-escape.blogspot.com/
Thanks for looking. Bless all those suffering from memory loss issues and diseases of the mind/brain.
