The turtle on the middle right was still hatching when he was brought out of his nest. However, he's not quite ready to face the world and was put back in his nest and covered with sand along with others who were not quite ready. He needs another day or two before he is ready to swim out to sea.
The journaling reads: Saturday, September 10th, 2011 – We were told the night before that the eggs hatch early in the morning in the preserve area by the hotel and we could take daylight pictures if we were there around 9:30. That morning over 1,600 had hatched and we were able to hold them and take pictures. What an experience! They said if we wanted to come back around 7:30 tomorrow morning we can help them dig their way out of the ground. Little did I know that working with the turtles every morning would become the focus of this vacation, nor did I realize how attached we would become to these tiny baby sea turtles.
