Sunday, October 2nd, 2011 - as the Captain had promised, the ship started rocking and rolling during the night and continued through the day. Today was Bill's turn to be seasick and he had it bad! He couldn't keep the Dramimine down so I gave him one of my leftover suppositories. Five minutes later he wasn't seasick anymore – in fact he was eating chocolate. For lunch he ordered room service; chicken broth, mixed fruit, Caesar salad, chicken breast with rice, crackers, and a turkey/bacon club sandwich. After we ate what we wanted we stacked the tray, dishes and silver domed plate covers on the table in our room. We both fell asleep and were awoken by a loud crash. We had hit a wave so rough that it caused the table to completely fall over, dumping all the dishes, silverware and leftover food all over the floor. What a mess!

Today we crossed the International Dateline but the deck-side party took place while Bill was at his sea-sickest so we were in our cabin.

By night we were both feeling okay and anxious to see Dale Kristien perform. She was the original lead (Christine) when Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway and continued to play/sing the lead for the first 5 years of its run. We enjoyed her performance previously on another ship and were thrilled to find her on our Holland America ship tonight. She didn't disappoint! She opened and closed with selections from Phantom of the Opera and sang other songs from major musicals – Bill's favorite was “Don't Cry For Me, Argentina” from Evita.

Then we made a quick stop by the front desk for more Dramamine. Amazing how policies vary from ship. On Royal Caribbean, when weather was rough, there were big bowls of Dramamine placed everywhere. Even in the lobby, the seasick meds were like big bowls of wrapped candy everywhere. On Princess we had to go to the front desk to buy it – at $4.00 for a package of 2 pills which is one dose. On Holland America Dramamine is free but you have to ask at the front desk or the medical clinic – but they will give you all you need.

Since it was formal night and since the day had been rough for us, we decided not to play dress up, and instead go to the buffet on the Lido deck. We didn't expect to find Steak and Lobster again, but it was wonderful. Again. Day 6 of the cruise – and already 3 of them lobster nights! I don't think it was the plan to serve lobster 3 nights in a row but the weather has been so bad and there have been so few people venturing out to dinner in either the dining room or buffet that the ship is on lobster overload! It wasn't on the menu for the dining room so the lobster tails were served in the buffet.

After dinner we took cheesecake and pecan pie to our room, as if either of us had room for dessert! Another nice surprise on the foot on our bed! A darling towel elephant, a card instructing us to set our clocks back one hour and matching wrapped gifts for us. We opened them to find we each got one of those toiletries things which has three compartments and hangs on a door when you are away from home. They are a nice canvas and have “2011 Asia & Australia Voyage – m/s Amsterdam - Holland America Line” imprinted on them.

The top portion of each of has: about 5 packages of Shout Wipe & Go, several packets of Bayer Aspirin, 2 packets Immodium, 2 packets antibiotic ointment, 2 packages alcohol prep pads and a stack of wrapped band-aids.

The middle portion has: a 2 fl. ounce bottle of Purell Hand Sanitizer, a nail file, a nice little sewing kit, a container of Binaca, and a tube of lip balm.

The bottom portion has: a package of tissues, a 2 ounce bottle of bug spray and a small bottle of SPF 30+ sunscreen.

Included was a card from the Captain and staff.
