Wow, that sure is a beautiful sight. Love how you placed the detail on the map. I did internet research, Mount Evans is still is the highest paved road in the US, they call it "the road into the sky". Drive from 8,700 feet at Idaho Spring where you turn off Interstate 70 to 14,240 feet to the summit.
I am sure my ears would pop if I were on this road!!! Just beautiful and I love all of your descriptions. I am like Mrs. Bean, it would scare me to be on this road!! I hate heights!
Nice layout...and the pictures make me homesick. We took many drives up that road back in the 50s and 60s...probably in the late 40s, but I don't remember those trips! Your colors and layout go good with the pictures.
1963 family vacation. At the time of this trip this was the highest paved road in the US, not sure if it still is. I inlcuded a map to note its location anda photo from the web that shows the narrow, no-shoulder road to the top. The last photo on the page has my mom, my brother and me standing on rocks near the summit. Very worth the trip up to the summit parking and hike on up if you are able.
