Give a Cheer
I had an Aha moment about buttons recently in May Flaum's Field Guide class. I bought these buttons when I first started scrapbooking. I had a ton of colors but I hardly ever used them. Eventually I concluded that I just didn't like buttons. Then during this class May sent me some Happy Mail - a card of buttons, which I promptly used on a new layout. At that point I realized it wasn't that I disliked buttons - it was that I disliked flat, matte, unembellished buttons. So this experiment was about figuring out what I could do to those plain buttons.
1) These are the original buttons.
2) Here I started with a Slick Writer pen. I also tried my Signo white pen but that wouldn't adhere at all. I'm not really fond of my pen work but when I added glossy accents they're not too bad.
3) Here I used some JBS pink paint. Again, I'm not happy with my messy application but I do like the look of the paint + glossy accents.
4) This is one of my favorites. No messy work here because I used rub-ons from KI Memories. Then glossy accents, of course. (Would you believe I didn't even own Glossy Accents before this class?!?!)
5) Another favorite - this is alcohol ink. Terra Cott and Stream on yellow buttons. With Glossy Accents to make them really pop. I have about a bazillion colors of alcohol ink so I can see this technique getting used a lot.
6) This is alcohol ink plus Silver Mixative. The silver gives a kind of rough silver look; no glossy accents here. I like the effect though the red was probably not the best choice. Looks like someone bled on the silver buttons.
