The Proposal
Tim and I went camping on Friday, September 8, 2005 at Palisades-Kepler State Park near Mount Vernon, Iowa. After dinner, Tim took me on the Cool Hollow Trail near our campsite. We had packed the camera, tripod, and an early anniversary gift from Tim to me. While climbing a large hill, Tim stopped us, pulled me into his arms, and handed me a small package. Realizing what he was about to do, I started trembling with excitement. I opened the package and found a Kim Anderson figurine of a boy holding a ring box. Tim opened the box and among the beautiful trees and fresh fall air, asked me to marry him! Tears were streaming down my face as I told him “Yes!” As we stood there holding each other, a deer crossed the trail and watched us. It was the best moment of our lives!
That weekend we kept the news to ourselves while we enjoyed eastern Iowa’s beauty. On Sunday, we packed up our camping gear (after a huge rainstorm woke us up early) and drove to Marshalltown to tell Tim’s parents. After that, we went to Nevada to tell my parents and then to Ames to tell Lance and Allison and Kay, Don, and Aaron. Everyone was so excited for us, but not that surprised. That’s what happens after dating for five years! (PS Tim did ask my parents a few weeks before asking me!)
