After leaving Monkey Island we went back to the place where we would pick up the shuttle that Holland America provided to take us back to the ship. We still had over 2 hours and Bill was starting to look a little shaggy around the edges so he decided he needed a haircut.

We asked where the nearest barber shop was and we were told it was about 3 miles away. Two men with motorcycles offered to take us to the barber shop so Bill helped me on the back of one of the motorcycles and he rode on the back of the other. It didn't help matters at all that I was wearing a muumuu, or if you bought it at Dillards, like I did, it is called a patio dress.

After the haircut (which was a whopping $3.00 American money), we got back on the motorcycles and toured a little more of downtown Nha Trang. That was an experience!

--------

From what we saw, I would estimate that there are 50-75 motorcycles for each car. Only the more affluent have automobiles, almost everyone has a motorcycle or bicycle.

Motorcycle drivers take stop signs and red lights as suggestions and choose not to follow them. I lost count of red lights which we never even slowed down for! And if they want to drive on the wrong side of the road – no problem. They may get back on their side if a car comes, or they may just stay on the wrong side of the road. In that case the hundreds of motorcycles just separate in the middle and drive on each side of the car travelling in the opposite direction. If they want to change lanes or make a u-turn, no rules apply. As insane as it was, I enjoyed the motorcycle ride. I did not enjoy getting off and on the back of the motorcycle in my muumuu.

My motorcycle was always in front of Bill's and he took pictures of me the entire time. About 30-40 pictures of me perched on the motorcycle seat from the back. I told him not to ever take pictures of me from the back like that again. They were unflattering, to say the least!

The motorcycle drivers dropped us off where the ship's shuttle was parked and brought us back to our home-away-from-home on the ship.
