Samuel P. Bates wrote a history of each Civil War Battle fought by PA Volunteers. It is online at the above web address.
Marcy (and Natalie!) - THANKS! He was a Union Soldier, Co. H, PA 81st Volunteers. He lost his arm at Charles City Crossroads. He then re-enlisted in Co. 127 Invalid Corps. That man must have been very brave. :)
This is such a stunning layout Barb, i just love how you incorporate all the special items that complete the story!!! ( I'm laughing reading Marcy's comment below, Obadiah, we just had a conversation about Civil War books, and she is a buff, I'd like to know the answer to her question too!)
This is a page of the children's 3rd Great Grandfather. As listed in Bates', I was able to learn the exact battle where he lost his arm! So I printed off the battle schematic and scrapped it. If you lift that picture up, there is journalling about Christopher Wall and the battle where he lost his arm. I included the genealogy chart, and on the second page, created a pocket out of a print in a book of the battle. In the pocket are his pension record card and his burial card. Lastly, I added a photo of his Cemetery marker.
