Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 – Jakarta, Our first port in Indonesia.

We arrived in Jakarta expecting to disembark at 7:00AM only to be told that our ship was approaching Jakarta but we had to wait for the pilot from Jarkarta to come out to meet our ship and guide us into port. It delayed us nearly 3 hours because the official from Jakarta overslept! We had a tour planned around Jakarta which had to be cut back several hours but it turned out okay – we were able to see everything we wanted to see. Even with the 3 hour late start.

We were repeatedly warned to be careful if sightseeing on our own because traffic in Jarkarta does not move over 10 miles an hour and is slower during rush hour. We had already booked a small private tour through Cruise Critic and to be honest, I think it took us more like an hour and a half to go 10 miles – and it was not rush hour!

I liked all the bicycles lined up for renting. Most had gold eagles mounted on the front fender and all came with a sun hat which was on the front handlebars of each bicycle. I would have had a problem wearing a hat though, having no idea who wore it before me. I'm funny like that.
