This is for a class called All About Me that I teach at my LSS - Scrapbook Alley in Harrah, OK.

Way back when I was first archiving old family photos, I realized that there were several people in them that I had no idea who were because no one had ever told me and they weren't identified in any way. There were no family stories to match the pictures, and I ended up just tossing most of them because they had no meaning or relevance for me.

I decided on that day to not allow myself to become one of those "who is that person" in the old photographs, and I began a "Book of Me" project. I invited my LSS students to join me, and we've been doing a About Me page once a month for about three years now. Our books are pretty full, I'd say, but it seems like there is always a new topic to be discovered.

This month's it's "Betcha Didn't Know."

Not too long ago, my mom sent me an envelope full of pictures and ephemera stuff that she'd been saving for me for someday. Why she waited until I was in my mid-fifties, I don't know, but there it is.

This is a scan of an old newspaper clipping from the Miss Mayes County pageant, where I was ... surprise ... second runner up. People who know me now - even people who knew me then - would be surprised to know that I even ENTERED such a thing, much less that I came that close to actually being crowned the lucky (rolling eyeballs) girl. It was all about the scholarship money, which definitely helped fund my first semester. I could have cared less about the "dress up and be pretty" part.
