The page is amazing, Lisa! I'm always glad to be a dance mom when I shoot dance studios, although I don't think I have as much knowledge as you do. I love all the beautiful bling and blues you worked into this.
Since I know absolutely NOTHING about dance, I think she looks perfect, and she's so pretty, Lisa. She has the build and look of a dancer! The blues are absolutely beautiful with this. So neat that you were able to use the costume itself to create some page elements!
This is a beautiful layout - love love love the colors and bling. But I feel obligated to tell you that your daughter is not ready for pointe. This is a huge decision and big deal -I have seen so many girls go thru injuries from putting on the shoes and going up too soon. she will need to be in and maintain a very tight and high releve before putting on her shoes.
This is Cassie's prep for pointe portrait from 2010. They danced to Beautiful in Blue by OperaBabes. She was in five dances that year, and I've already scrapped her ballet portrait, Kashmir, but still have three to go as well as nine from 2011 and eight from 2012. Sigh. You can see the LO's I've completed for earlier years in my Dance LO's Album in my gallery. All her professional dance portraits have been taken by Cass Photography.
This is for: 1) July Monthly Sketch Challenge - Week 1 with the twist to use ribbon or fiber. I used the blue ruffled ribbon, which I layered, as well as the blue glittered ribbon for the bow. The sketch chosen for week 1 was created by Lisa (Raining) here at sb.com.
2) July Monochrome Challenge - Liberty Blue with the twist Night Sky. I have three silver stars in the corner bling.
I cut the large fabric flower from a piece of my dd's hair ribbon from this costume using my Cuttlebug and the Tattered Florals die. I edged the butterflies with my Clear Stardust pen. I embossed the metallic blue punched cs circle with a script Cuttlebug folder, and I cut and embossed the ribbon banner with a Cuttlebug Embossing Plus folder. The ribbon banner is popped up with foam tape.
I guess I should throw out there, since it's been pointed out to me that her releve isn't very high here, that she was just starting to fall over when the photographer took this shot. It's why I have part of her foot covered - so you can't see her toes trying to grab on and regain her balance. LOL The photographer was, well, ... a photographer, not a dancer, and chose this shot based on her face, not her feet or arms. It's not my favorite shot of her. Anyway, she was in Prep for Pointe, where they train technique and gradually build the proper strength in the feet - not Pointe, and she didn't go up for another 8 months, when her teachers determined that she was ready. Then, once that happens, the girls are only allowed to be up for max 15min at a time, until they gradually build up to more, so she was really still in Prep for Pointe for another year. This year, June 2012, was her first time on stage en pointe. Hope that explains it :)
