Flamingo nest. These flamingos recently mated and laid eggs. In the exhibit there are 7 nests. 5 have one egg, one had its egg fall, and the last has 2 eggs.

The female and male flamingos take turns sitting on the nests. Twice daily the nest is cleaned and the eggs are turned. The flamingos turn the eggs carefully with their beaks, but if an egg falls from the mound it is not retreived. Typically a female will lay one egg, but occasionally two eggs will be laid. The eggs are incubated for 27-31 days before the little flamingos arrive. I am hoping they hatch before we move.
