My dd and I had gone on a hike and then for a drive to look for a nice spot to have a picnic lunch. As we were driving we realized we had run out of water and the dog was thirsty so when I saw this pretty lake I pulled over. There was a fence along with a sign that explained this was an ecological reserve. No camping, fishing etc., but hikers were okay so when Renia said she was taking Finnegan to get his drink I thought nothing of it. I stayed at the car and was taking photos like this one. You see Renia near the lake. She took one more step and I saw her fall backwards. What actually happened was she stepped onto the sand and sunk to her knees. She threw herself backwards and dragged herself out. The sand sucked her runners right off her feet! Reaction set in a few minutes later and she got shakey and had a headache but was otherwise okay. Finnegan at 8 pounds didn`t weigh enough to sink. I phoned Environment Canada and the secretary I spoke to was as appalled as I was but when I spoke to her boss he was trying to put the blame on us for walking there even though hiking is allowed! I think I will write a letter to the editor to put in the local newspaper to make sure people are aware of the danger. TFL
