Shell Seekers This is my kick off project for Group 1, Week 1 of the September Round Robin. The first week specs were to lift a SEPTEMBER layout from a member of the preceding group. I saw Njr007's Honeymoon, and knew what I wanted to do right away.
I've had these papers and embellishments in my stash for - like - EVER, and when Sonja kicked off a new challenge this month called "Hoarders," I knew it was time to get them out and use them.
I'm not really sure why I even BOUGHT these papers. I live in Oklahoma, which is land locked. We don't vacation at the Beach. We don't even TALK about vacationing at the beach.
But I grew up in the Marine Corps. My dad was a fighter pilot, so we were always stationed on a coast. So I suspect these beach-papers by Kay & Company speak to my resident child who will ALWAYS love the smell of the ocean and the feel of the sudsy surf in her toes.
I did a layout with my DH and younger daughter at the Hilton Head beach in SC, and this is the only beach scene I have of my older daughter, but I wanted to recreate something unique and special for her as well. So that's the deal.
The photo is from 1988, taken at Pensacola Beach, where my daughter and I had traveled to go to my brother's wedding. It was her first - and as far as I know - her ONLY time at the ocean, and in my opinion, the Gulf of Mexico is a poor substitute for the Atlantic. But you have to make do with what you have, and she and I had a fun time doing a little beach combing and playing in the sand.
I used some printables from CSI to help me out with the quote, the big shell, and the small shell seekers circle journal. They provide these with each of their case kits for people who are signed up for their FREE site.
I also used some fish net that I had left over from a Master Technique Class that I taught at my LSS. And the sticker letters are from the package of Graphic45 alphabets that I used on my "Red Fox Coat" layout. I scanned the set before I used them, and then I have them to print off whenever I need. They're perfect 1/2" circle punch size - what could be easier? Put a little glossy accents over them, and they look like the real deal!
The turquoise paper is some leftover from a flower making episode. It's sprayed with a homemade shimmer mix. Some metallic paint in water and that's all.
Everything else is K&Company Travel . It's ALL prepackaged stuff - I got it on sale at HL on 50% off day so I bought the layered glitter stickers, the cardstock bits, and the transparencies. The paper stack I got here at SB.com.
The whole thing is really nothing more than a bunch of layered little pictures. Honest. It was one of the easiest pages I've ever created!
