Journaling reads: It's been over a year since I eliminated processed foods from my diet, and I am now the healthiest I've ever been. My weight melted away and has stayed away with very little effort. There's no tracking points or counting calories. It just takes a little more time in the kitchen to prepare foods, which I enjoy anyway. I'm just kicking myself that it took 15 years to figure out how to eat. In the past I'd follow the low-fat myth that every doctor had bought into. I succumbed to the influence of the food marketers, believing every lie written on their packages. Meanwhile, I was poisoning my body with sugar and food-like substances that should not enter the human body. And I was punished for abusing my body with mysterious pains, exhaustion, and chubbiness that didn't seem to go away no matter how much I exercised. Now that I'm eating the right way, I've been rewarded with freedom – freedom from weight fluctuations, from headaches, from cravings, from depression, from fatigue, and from frequent illness. All of this has made me a better servant to my family and friends. This simple truth has helped remind me that mainstream thinking, often considered “common sense,” is so often wrong. Though it can be tough to feel like an eccentric for not buying breakfast cereal or granola bars, it's empowering to know that we can overcome the lies of our culture and live the right way. Our physical, mental, and spiritual health depend on it.
