Dan Buchanon, a native of Mindon, Nevada, Dan Buchanon has made a name for himself performing regularly in airshows. It isn't just his talent that makes him so extraordinary. It is also his ability to overcome difficulty while making the best of it. In 1981, a sporting accident caused Buchanon to become a paraplegic. Although he had been a custom builder and loved to fly before the accident, because of his inability to walk, he decided to return to college to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. One year later, Buchanon was once again flying, in hang gliders.
In 1989 he began sharing this passion with millions when he performed in his first airshow.
He went on to win the Bill Barber award for showmanship in 1999, as well as special achievement awards in 2001. Buchanon's takeoffs can cause him to achieve speeds up to 30 mph and altitudes of 1,500 feet.
