Thank you all for your comments. This layout was on paper and it was early in my scrapping career. Cutting out the photos was very challenging, but I wanted to capture all of her energy. For me the stars were playful, childlike and energetic like my granddaughter. She is a very happy girl. For those of you who read my album, and know how tragic my childhood was, you can appreciate what a victory and accomplishment it is for me that my granddaughter has a happy childhood and knows nothing of the hard life that other children suffer. She doesn't understand hardship. Praise God for that.
Another great layout and I love the story about Leah slipping off the rocks..how adorable. I actually had the opposite idea about the stars. I was wondering how it would look if you removed them and made the first page simple like the second page...but that is my style of scrapbooking, so that doesn't surprise me. I liked what others said about carrying over the light green paper to page two. Could you use ovals of it as mats behind the journaling maybe? Just an idea. Overall another wonderful layout!!
I agree, I really like the cut out photos in the ovals. At first I wasn't sure what your technique was... it looks just different enough from an untouched photo that it made me think of stop action photography. I agree that there's a bit of a shift between the left and right pages. In addition to incorporating a couple of the stars, I wonder if there's a way to work in some of the light green paper from your ovals? I think that would unify the pages nicely... can't think where to suggest that you put it though! Leah looks like she is having such a great time!
I, too, like the matting of your photos. You do such a great job with this. I agree with the star suggestion. Just to tie the two pages together (if you felt like going back and adding onto them).
Very nice page! I love how you cut out the pictures and put them on the ovals - it looks great! The one thing I might suggest is to add some stars on the right hand of the layout, between the two pictures on the right. Can't think of anything else, this is a very pretty and creative layout!
Wow! Love the pics in the ovals. I think I'd add something between the two pics on the far right. Maybe a fesw of the stars you used on the other page. The zig zaggy strips of paper look nice, too.
Wow - I rarely like pics cut out in silhouette because it never looks quite right to me, but this REALLY WORKS with the paper in the background and the graduating ovals. I REALLY like it. I also like how you combine a lot of pictures and journaling on a 2 pg spread, but the design is done so well that it never looks too crowded.
This page definitely has a soft spring feel! Love the different shades of green and really adore the ovals with the silhouette pics (very creative and effective in adding that touch of flair). I don't think I would have chose the grass paper for matting but ya know it really seems to work...I think it helps keep that subtle outdoor feel. Good Job!!!!
*** Tickle the Fish *** This water garden is one of Leah’s favorite spots in the JC Raulston Arboretum. Two intersecting rectangular pools of about eighteen inches deep are traversable only by walking on stepping stones which appear to be floating on the surface of the water. To move from one side of this garden to the other, one must walk on the stones. Some people are too shy, but Leah steps out confidently. Each time we come to the arboretum, she asks to stop in this garden so she can tickle the fish. *** One summer day when Ilene and Larry took Leah to the arboretum, Leah played wildly in the water garden. Suddenly she stepped off the stone and into the water. She clambered out of the water as fast as she could, shaking off the water and wringing her dress. She was afraid that her parents might get made at her if she came home wet, so we stayed in the garden until she was nearly dry and promised not to tell her parents what happened. *** The moment we got in the door at her house, she blurted out to her mother what had happened. *** This girl is so honest! ***
