Daisy Kingdon
***
The fabric for this Daisy Kingdom dress was only available at the brand new Joanne’s Fabric Store at Cary Crossroads, which had not yet opened. Ilene’s patience was stretched when the store opening was delayed by several days. She became so desperate to start work on the dress that she waited in the parking lot, talking to the District Manager on her cell phone, while the City Inspector went through the store. When it was finally done, it was late in the evening. The manager opened the door, so Ilene was the first person to shop in that store.

Leah is hunting for eggs amongst the viburnum. When she got around to the back side of the viburnum, we found that the baptisia was in bloom. It was the first time we had seen baptisia except in catalogs. It was so beautiful with its pearly white blossoms clustered high on the strong stems, blowing gracefully in the breeze. That was the only time we saw the baptisia in bloom.

Authors comments on layout:

I created this page when I had been scrapbooking only about 6 months, so my techniques were still developing, and some seem immature to me now, but overall I am proud of the layout and think it was a good display of rapidly developing talent.

Some things I really liked about the layout:
I copied the pattern envelope and displayed it on the left page, with my granddaughter in the dress on the right page.
I used decorative blades in my FISKARS cutter, and cut the green chain borders. They were hard to work with, but created a nice effect.
I used CREATING KEEPSAKES software to write the titles - a small challenge that taught me to use the software.

Making the dress was challenging. It looks like something you would see in a Disney movie.
I had to use very specific fabrics and complicated techniques. I am really happy that I got to make something so unique for my granddaughter.

It was a shame that she outgrew it so soon, so I scrapbooked it to remember what pleasure that dress brought us.
My granddaughter has put that dress, and several others that I made for her, away so that it can be worn by future generations.
It is possible that the dress will outlive me. I am really proud that I was able to create such a beautiful legacy for my family.

It is so important to believe in yourself, and with this dress, I was able to show the little one how special she is to me.
***
I wish every little girl could be loved this way.
