I love that you scrapped about htis side of your husband. I think that in a marriage we often see or discover sides of our spouse that no one else even knows exist. Often these "hidden identities" are some of the things that make us love and appreciate them the most. Things that we wish others could see and appreciate too, so this is a great way to allow them (especially our posterity)to see that side of the person we love too. I agree with Jas that it would be really cool to see a pic of the cross stitch. Maybe you could do another page with the pic of the Little Dream and then a pic of the cross stitch of it - or even to a hidden pic of the cross stitch underneath the real pic here on this lo. I agree that you could put something inbetween the journaling and pic on the left page. buttons sound great, or even buttons on little tiles to match the other side more.
I love the purples! I like the idea of adding the row of buttons. It's so sweet that your dh cross-stitches! Just an idea, can you add a photo of one of his masterpieces here (perhaps the one where he won an award)?
Leanne: There is a little Trompe l'Oiel going on here. The room is in the Hawthorne Inn, and the exterior (Victorian) is the Little Dream. We stayed at the Hawthorne and took a tour of the Little Dream, resolved that when we went back, we would stay at the Little Dream. But we never did saty at the Little Dream. Both inns are in Camden, a very picturesque coastal village. My husband was a cross stitcher, and he stitched the Little Dream, without a pattern. Inns are lovely places to take mini vacations. Each one is unique, and each room is unique. Some inns have wonderful breakfasts, others have a very nice little social hour in the evenings. Some serve afternoon tea. Rooms tend to be quite romantic.
The flowers are stickers mounted on deco squares from a Creative Keepsakes Creative Lettering cd, probably Creative Clips and Fonts for Girls.
BTW, should I add a row of buttons in the space between the two lower photos on the left page?
I'm not sure if the row of flowers on the right are pressed or printed, but they're beautiful! Do you mind if I ask which Inn that is? I live here in Maine and like to take mini vacations in the area. The photos of it are beautiful. The colors and placement of everything are just beautiful. My only thought is that the two blocks on the bottom of the left page seem to be spaced farther apart than everything else on these two pages. Perhaps you could use more of the same horizontal line on the first page to create a short vertical line coming from the horizontal line to the end of the page. Just a thought. :) TFS!
Great monochromatic layout! I'm glad your husband is secure enough to cross-stitch! I like the small accents you have on your right page. The photos are beautiful and make me want to visit Maine (kind of hard to do from all the way from the Gulf Coast of Texas, but worth some looking into).
*** A Real Romantic *** In his late thirties, Larry worked for Pioneer Plastics as a Product Manager. He traveled all over the United States and Canada. He liked to cross stitch in his hotel room rather than drink and carouse as other businessmen do. But he was too shy to publicly acknowledge that he stitched. He referred to himself as a “closet stitcher”. During one long flight to the West Coast, when there were few passengers, he sequestered himself near the rear of the plane, He pulled out his cross stitch, planning to hide it if anyone walked up the aisle in his direction. But the stewardess approached from the rear service area and caught him. In short order, all the stewardesses gathered around to admire Larry’s work. The other travelers might have wondered what ‘line’ Larry had used to get their attention. Women just like Larry because he appreciates the things that women do. He even does some of those things himself, and does them well. *** Larry entered a cross stitch into the Maine Needle Arts Competition. There were 300 pieces in that category. He was shy about stitching, so he entered as “L Holmes”, expecting that they would think that L stood for Linda or Lisa. He won second place. When he went to pick up his award, he learned that the first place winner was also a man. So men who are in touch with their feminine side are winners. If all men would follow his example, men and women would get along so much better, but alas, he’s one of a kind. *** During this period, Larry and Ilene took vacations at Bed & Breakfast Inns along the coast of Maine. In Camden, they walked or rode bicycles, usually carrying a camera and a picnic lunch. One day, an elderly lady invited them in for a private tour of her garden when she saw them hovering at the gate taking pictures. On another day, they rode past a farm with Belted Galloway cows and ate lunch overlooking Rockport Harbor. *** Larry spent quiet hours in a rocking chair, on the breezy porch, cross stitching. He created a pattern for the little Dream B&B in Camden and another for Sonnenburg Estate in Canandagua, New York. Larry is a very domestic fellow. Even though he is a very good traveler, for him, there is no place like home. *** Larry’s Favorite Things: • Camden, Maine • Marco Island, Florida • Rockport Harbor, Maine • Fine Restaurants • Lobsters • Le Casoulet • Shrimp a la Grecque • Intimate Evenings • Montreal • Cross Stitching • Water Color Painting ***
