My great grandmother, Bessie Pearl MacFarland Stephenson, in her mid thirties (my best guess from other photos that are dated). I used Graphic 45, Ladies' Diary for most of this. BTW, the scan is crooked and wanky, not the items.

I never met her, but in a family of skinny people, it is nice to see somebody have the battle of the bulge as I do! Everybody loved Bess, known as Mamaw to her grandchildren (my Dad). She was one of those southern women who did "good works" all over Birmingham, AL and nobody left her home hungry. Big Daddy spent most of his money trying to save Mamaw's life when she fell very, very ill in the 1940's. He took her all over the world trying to find a cure for her "blood disorder" which turned out to be Leukemia. Big Daddy died a couple years later, some say of a broken heart.
