I'm also working on a family military book. Fortunately for me lots of my paternal side has it's own web page through Ancestry.com. It does help that my 2nd cousin was the geneaology archivist for Kentucky and memorabilia is on display at the Smithsonian, but I didn't find out until 2008. My maternal line is more difficult because records are split between Spain and US but have found records for WW1 and The Crusaders. I have now dove headfirst into the military history of my husband's grandfather. We just visited his aunt and she has more information and original documents than the national museums and archives in South America back to the 17th century. It was unbelievable holding pictures and reading original documents regarding the sale of the Panama Canal to the US! With all the info and pictures I have, I need lots of inspiration and your page is perfect!
You are doing an outstanding job on your research and this is a great LO! I love the circle punched withthe corner, I do that too! Like the double mats and the font you selected.
This is the son of Wadsworth Foster and my two-greats grandfather. His middle name is his mother's maiden name. He was born 1824 and died 1906. He served in the Wisconsin Cavalry as a First Leiut and a Colonel. He reenlisted and served in the Wisconsin 83 Infantry Company D as a Captain. I found records of their movements and battles online. The documents on this LO are ones my dad owns. I copied them, then brought them home and scanned them into my computer and resized them. The documents are his first discharge paper, his request for invalid pension and his pension acceptance signed by the sec., and his obituary. The crossed guns and flags as well as the Wisconsin flag are images from the internet. The photo is a photo of a picture my dad owns. Its frame is at least 3 feet tall. I scanned my photo of it and resized it also. There were two obituaries in my dad's records of Capt. Foster, I used one here as well, a scanned copy of the orignial with the torn edges. I had to tear this copy so the white cardstock didn't stick out. The BG CS is Old World by DCWV I have owned for a very long time in anticipation of these photos. The circle is cut from an 8 inch square. I drew a line from corner to corner diagonally to find the center, used a compass to draw a circle then used MS corner punch to cut the decorative edges. The title is from my Silhouette.
