When Bill first took me to Hawaii in 2009 we stayed on Pearl Harbor. Each floor had an exterior walkway from one end of the building to the other with the elevator in the middle. To get from the elevator to our room on the 3rd floor we always walked past a papaya tree and right at eye level we noticed two little Zebra Doves cuddled together every night just after the sun went down.

We were surprised in 2010 to see our doves on the same branch but the tree had grown so we had to look up a bit to see them. By 2011 the tree had grown more so we had to go to the 4th floor to see them but they were always there at night. It was a ritual for us to check on our birds every night before we went to bed.

In the fall of 2012 we were disappointed to find only one bird perched in the papaya tree. After 3 weeks Bill came to our room very excited and said he had a surprise for me. We took the elevator up to the 4th floor; both birds were back on the branch as cuddly and snuggly as ever. Bill says the birds remind him of us because we sleep all snuggled and cuddled just like these birds.
