Trial run at altering a glass jar. This was a sauerkraut jar with a gold lid. I was going to paint the lid, but ending up keeping it in it's original gold color. I cut down a doily to fit the lid and topped with large pink flower & a beautiful green butterfly (a gift from my sweet friend, Lorna). The jar was first given a coat of Mod Podge, followed by strips of a lightweight paper in a neutral, off-white with handwriting & postmarks in the design--the perfect foundation for my vintagey look. After the first layer is dry, a thick coat of TH's distress crackle paint in clear rock candy was applied. The final layer before embellishing consisted of spritzing the dry surface with Glimmer Mist in "Olive Vine". Love how the color accentuates the "cracks" & rock candy crystals! I used a chipboard piece from "Secret Garden" collection as the focal point of the jar side's design. Because of the stiffness of the chipboard, I just "bent" it slightly before hot glueing to the jar. The flowers were also hot glued, nestled against the chipboard and accented with pearl swirls. The lace pieces were from my stash.

I loved the finished project so much! It reminded me of my grandma & that made me love it even more! Don't know if I will use this in the "altered mason jar" swap, hosted by babigirl, that I am participating in, or keep it for myself--LOL!

Thanks for looking!
