I agree. Use all the space. Go vertical as much as possible. The clothes rod can also be used. I've seen where people hand papers and embellies from skirt/pants hangers. Plus there's those canvas cubbys that are made to hang from the rod. There's some for sweaters and some for shoes. So you're not stuck with doing only shelves.

I would put shelves all the way up to accomodate all of the different size boxes, craftkeepers, and photo boxes.
