journaling for pages 2 & 3: We bought a bird feeder a couple of years ago, for a school project I think. It was jut a cheap plastic thing, but the birds didn't care. We hung it in front of the kitchen window and enjoyed the sights, and refilled the feeder - usually daily. I also spent, still do, lots of time pulling the weeds from the seeds they spill. :)
Yesterday David bought a new bird feeder, a bigger one with a deeper seed tray so they won't spill so much; and heavier, so it won't go flying when bigger birds take off, or blow about in the wind. It holds more seed, so maybe we won't have to fill it as often, but it also holds more birds, so maybe we will.

But they birds! We have even seen birds that don't "officially" come this far south. We have the expeted cardinals, and the doves sit on the ground and wait for the seeds that spill (along with the squirrels, who just can't figure out how to get to the feeder.) There is a very slippery blue jay, who has so far managed to elude my lens, and a red-bellied woodpecker, who picks out the peanuts and flies away with them. Then there are the birds I didn't even know we had here - house sparrows and house finches. Is it worth all the trouble? Oh yes! I feel like I've got a whole bunch of chirping, squawking, messy beautiful neighbors!
