My dad and uncle bought out their father's business in 1971 and then another business and formed three Corporations. My dad and brother and mother (pictured) ran the main business and my uncle the tomato specialty business. I ran the retail business for two summers during high school. They were in the city's old market building until they bought land and built their own building in 1977. I spent Memorial Day weekends when I was in grade school and Jr high selling fresh peonies for my grandfather. In high school I got a real education by running the retail business myself. Setting prices, running newspaper ads, manning the booth six days a week, unloading tucks with crates of peaches and taking my loads of watermelons. I labeled many a can of sorghum/molasses and jugs of apple cider. I am here to tell you nothing stinks like a lot of rotten tomatoes or potatoes. shewwwy. Fond memories here.
