Journaling reads:
We left Michigan to head to my home state of Alabama on Saturday, June 8, 2013. With Daddy retiring from the USMC and our lease being up on the house, we figured we’d spend the summer with my family in Alabama. We planned on stopping in the Louisville, Kentucky area and meeting Nana & Grandaddy. We got started at a little after 8 in the morning. We made it about 20 miles before we hit construction, and stop and crawl traffic. There’s only 2 seasons in Michigan, winter & construction. So we didn’t quite make it to Detroit before we had to stop. We had a half tank of gas, the plan was to make it to Ohio to fill up, as gas in Michigan was $4.25 a gallon and was close to $3.80 in Ohio. We had the van loaded down with clothes, toys, scrapbook paraphernalia, computer paraphernalia (a big bag with my external hard drives), a dog crate, a big ol bag of dog food, 2 kids, a dog & me.
I had you boys in the back seat, playing the games in your road trip activity pack. Of course, you played all the games while we were stopped in traffic. Kind of hard to play road-trip bingo when you’re stopped. But you stayed busy and you did a lot better on the trip than I thought they would. We broke the trip up into 2 roughly 6 hour drives. We stopped in Shepherdsville, KY for the night. Bailey did great, except for tearing up the Do Not Disturb door hanger when we left her in the hotel room when we went for supper. We made it to Montgomery, Alabama around 3 in the afternoon. And we couldn’t get out of the car fast enough!
