Joe's House
Joe's house is on our property next to our house – we had it built for him because Joe was too old to live in a bedroom in our house – that would not have worked for Bill, Joe or me. Because of his seizures we wanted him to live closer to us than the nearest apartments. One night he left our house at 11:45 to go to his apartment which was 2 blocks away. When he didn't call within 10 minutes to tell me he was home (and I wasn't able to reach him on his phone or cell phone), I drove around looking for him and found him unconscious on the side of the road at midnight. This wasn't working – Joe had to be closer to us but he needed his own space too. The solution was to build this beautiful 2-story house that is now Joe's home.

Once we decided on the floor plan Joe picked out the floor tiles, carpet, upstairs and downstairs paint colors, light fixtures, ceiling fans, cabinet style and color, countertops, bathroom fixtures – even the grout between the tiles. Joe picked out everything in his house – including furnishings and decorations. He has awesome taste! It looks like a real man-cave and he keeps it so neat and clean – I'm truly impressed!

In the photo the screened-in balcony doesn't have the screen or pickets and railing yet so Bill and Joe enjoyed sitting and dangling their feet off the edge while checking out the neighborhood. The window behind Joe and also the sliding doors go to Joe's bedroom. That window has a cat sash so James Dean and Natalie Wood (his cats) can go onto the balcony for their food, water and litter box. The window upstairs on the far left is over the stairs and not accessible. The windows downstairs are both for the living room.
