The boiling springs meant the end of the tour. Instead of being taken back to the ship Bill asked the tour guide to let us out of the cab in the center of town where the horse and buggy rides originated. (The other people on the tour with us got off at the ship.)

The little town with cobblestone streets was charming! I was thrilled when Bill arranged for an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage with 3 horses to take us on a tour around town but instead of going back to the place where the carriage rides start and end, Bill worked it out with the driver that after riding us around town the route would be changed so the horses and carriage would drop us off at our cruise ship. You could tell this really confused the horses to have their route changed but they adapted very well.

Our driver was dressed in style with a top hat which added to the special romance of our private horse and carriage ride. The horses were covered in sleigh bells which jingled with every step the horses took. Add to that the clomping sound as the horses pulled our carriage over the cobblestone streets – I felt like I stepped into a page of a Dickens novel!
