The lo I did for Dee's (scrappincrazi) CJ "Most Heartwarming Moments".

Journaling Reads:

When my children were very young I experienced the most heart warming moment of my life. It was the middle of winter, we had a good couple inches of snow with a thick crust of ice on top. It was around 6pm and we were getting ready to go to WalMart. Since it was winter it was already dark out. Jade was only about 9 months old and Joey was 2 ˝. Joe went out to start the car and warm it up. I started out the door, carry Jade and holding Joey’s hand. Joey started sliding on the ice and wanted carried. It was tricky enough for me to carry Jade as I had high heel boots on and was sliding myself. I looked over by the door and saw our sled. What a great idea, I though, just pull them to the car. I put Joey in the back and sat Jade in front of him. He held on to her tight as I pulled them to the car. At the edge of our driveway is a slight grade. I told Joe to take the string and hold it until I came down over the little hill. Joe missed me handing him the string. As the kids went down over the little hill they picked up speed quickly, gliding across the crust of ice. I yelled for Joe to grab them. He dove for them, missed and knocked the sled sideways. It was headed straight for the road. As I watched my kids speed toward the road things seemed to go in slow motion. I looked down the hill and saw an 18 wheeler coming up the road. Joe was trying to run to get them but he kept falling on the ice. The kids went down over the bank and out onto the road. They crossed both lanes of traffic and stopped right in the lane directly in front of the 18 wheeler. Somehow, by the grace of God he saw them in time and swerved, only missing them by feet. I do not remember running to them, it seemed one minute I was watching them and the next I was laying over top of them as another pick-up truck came towards us. Somehow I managed to get to them across the ice with high heels on and not fall. I laid over top of them as the next truck swerved what seemed like closer than the first one. They were both shaken and crying but neither one of them had a single scratch on them. Joey held onto his baby sister the whole time. I picked them up and carried them off the road, sat down and held them and cried. I came so close to losing my babies.

Now you might ask why THIS is a heart warming moment to m e. Although this was a terribly traumatic incident, Jade doesnt remember it and Joey didnt talk about it. Joey finally mention this a few years later, when he was around 5. He said “Mommy, do you remember when Jade and I went out in the sled?” I told him I did. He then said “Were you holding me in it?” I told him I wasnt. He said “Was Daddy holding me in it?” I said Daddy wasnt either. This is the part that still gives me chills to this day, he looked at me with this puzzled look on his face and ask “Then who was in the sled behind me with their arms around me holding me in?” I simply answered an angel Joey, an angel was riding with you in the sled that night.
