The signs crack me up. "thoroughly clean and tidy!" I hae never heard of area for washing with clothes lines. How innovative they were in a big city. The bg paper is truly perfect. Thanks for educating me.
This is part of my Glasgow Green series of papers, the oldest park in Scotland. There are still drying lines at the park and then steamies (where women could go do laundry were set up). It's just a glimpse of the life of Glasgow. The main photo is from the 1940s and shows women hanging their laundry.
