what a fabulous tribute to your grandparents and what they stood for!! Love the way you included so many meaningful elements, and that hankie looks real! I loved reading your description; your love for them and all your family shines through. That twine grass was a cool idea-it looks great!
What a wonderful page and even more wonderful story behind it. I am so happy to have read your beautiful and touching description. Your layout is such an amazing page. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!
OMG! I can see all the love and attention to detail that you put into this lo!! It speaks to me of my Grandpa and Grandma who migrated from OK also! Fabulous, simply Fabulous lo!
Oh this is so country FAB! It reminds me of my Granny and Pawpaw so much and pulls at my heartstrings with all the details that remind me of our life. They too had strong Southern Baptist beliefs and we lived on a small farm. My FAV is the little pig on the cow~so whimsical and so perfect~
This is absolutely amazing! I love how you took your special memories and incorporated them onto this page. Great photo, wonderful story, and a really fun, warm page!!
This is so emotional for me, as I believe family is the most important thing in life, and grandparents are such an integral part of that. Beautiful job Elizabeth! Thanks for sharing your family memories that are so precious. The pig on the top of the cow, riding backwards cracks me up.xx
a definite fav, this is so beautiful !I love all the fussy cut things . The pig, cow and chickens are adorable. The sentimentality and love of family is wonderful. Your time was well spent making this, and what a fantastic photo!
Very fun, country-themed layout! Wonderful photo. I'm glad you were able to incorporate so many of the things you remembered about your grandparents from a young age.
I adore this page.....the colors, the photo, the seed packs, the bandana hankie, the animals.......well....I love it all! One of the best family memory pages I have seen lately. I hope you copied and printed what you wrote here, for a sheet behind the page in your scrapbook. Delightful!!!!
Absolutely exceptional, you have fond memories of your grandparents. I am proud of the final product. Memories that are dear to the heart can be difficult to express visually. Elizabeth, my grampie had the same hanky.
Elizabeth, this just takes my breath away! love everything about your LO and the beauty of your family's survival of a terrible time in American history. Your story has touches my heart, and I suspect that I am not the only one. You've inspired me to tell more stories from my childhood......thank you!
WOW girl, you have everything but the kitchen sink on this lo! This speaks volumes of what pertained to your grandparents. I love the hankie as your focal point. This really is an awesome lo & I can tell you worked hard to get it just right!:)
Now this IS inspirational! The little boys all have their cowboy shirts on, what a great photo! Love the country theme and all the wonderful embellishments! This layout really tells a story!
My friends, I have to say I really struggled with this layout for a good two weeks! It is totally different than my original thought of making a quilt square with paper products. I just couldn't find papers in my stash I wanted to use, then I remembered this hankie 8x8 paper that I wanted for sure to use because my Poppy carried them around with him. The photo is from 1959 when I was just a baby. It is of Poppy, Grandma and all of their grandkids (before Oliver Don was born). My oldest brother Travis and sister Bunny are standing and seated from L to R are my brother Marshall, cousins Pat, Dale, my brother Robert, my cousins Skip (Roy) holding Cis (Cleda), me and my cousin Darlene holding me. Both my grandparents are gone now and my sweet cousin Darlene passed away this past July after battling cancer for about 12 years. My Poppy died just a couple weeks shy of my 4th birthday but there are still so many things I remember and loved about him. It is funny sometimes how much you can remember when you get older if you think about it!
Almost all of my embellishments I used are things that I remember about Poppy and Grandma. They were strong in their Primitive Baptist beliefs and faith in God so I added the bible and a song from our old Good Old Songs book, Angel Band, which was one of Poppy's favorites. Poppy raised a few milk cows, pigs, chickens and peacocks. A garden was pretty much a necessity and they grew a big one. Poppy grew some of the biggest watermelon I'd ever seen and I still remember him slicing into those and passing them out to us kids. They were so good and sweet. Grandma did a lot of canning over the years and when they moved from Oklahoma to Porterville, California during the Dust Bowl they ran out of money somewhere in Arizona and she sold her canned goods to get them the rest of the way. They settled finally in Fresno, where I was raised. Grandma sewed, crocheted, knitted and made quilts. She also loved her flowers. Not long after they'd settled in California they found out that the people who moved onto their property in Oklahoma struck oil! I can't imagine what they must have felt when they heard that news.
When I misted the hankie it seemed to dry lighter so I inked it all over with TH Fired Brick after scrunching it all up and letting it dry. I did a lot of fussy cutting as you can see. I got a lot of the photos off the internet, printed them out and then cut them out. I cut green twine into tiny pieces and glued it on to look like grass under the cow and chickens. I kinda like how that turned out! :-)
Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you're having an awesome week!
