My Aunt Mary in November 1942, with her daughter, Frances. My Mom always said that even though we were at war, everyone still thought of those days as "good times." She said it must have been a way of coping with the tragedy of war. That is my Aunt Frances' handwriting on the note. It was taped to the back of the photo. I imagine that a year earlier, on December 7, 1941, that Aunt Mary and her family learned about the attack on Pearl Harbor and listened to President Franklin Roosevelt on the large floor model radio that stands behind her. Her name was Mary Lavenia, known as "Vene" to her sister and brother, but as Aunt Mary, to me.
